Getting to Costa Ballena
The keys to unlocking Costa Ballena
How do I get to Costa Ballena?
While Costa Ballena has long been one of Costa Rica’ s best kept secrets, recent completion of a
new coastal highway has made it easily accessible to those in search of a destination characterized by mountains, pristine beaches and lush rainforest canopy. Where the mountains meet the Pacific Ocean, the completion of the new highway, which runs south to the Panama border, has opened the region to a wide variety of travel options.
From the capital city, San Jose, a 6-hour bus ride from the Tracopa bus terminal will take you through the towns of Jaco, Quepos, Dominical and Uvita. If your preference is to rent a car in San Jose, the scenic drive that connects you with the new coastal highway will get you to Dominical in approximately 3 ½ hours. Those seeking a speedier version of the scenic adventure can opt to fly from San Jose to Quepos, which takes approximately 20 minutes and provides stunning views of the region’s mountain ranges and coastline.
